Teen Patti Gold Table Position Strategy: Why Turn Order Matters

Most new Teen Patti Gold players only focus on their three cards and ignore table position and betting turn order. But your seat position decides how much information you get before you act, and it shapes whether you should chaal, raise, side show or pack. Betting proceeds clockwise around the table, so players who act later have a big advantage. This guide explains position types, advantages and how to adjust your play based on your turn.

Teen Patti turn order runs clockwise after the boot is collected. The first player to act is the early position. Players who act in the middle are middle position, and the last player to act is late position, also called the dealer position. Late position is the strongest seat because you get to watch every other player’s action before you make your choice.

Early position disadvantage: You must act first, with no clues about what other players will do. You do not know if anyone behind you will raise. This means you should play tight in early position. Only raise with strong hands such as sequence, pure sequence or trail. With medium hands like colour or weak pair, you should usually just chaal or pack. Bluffing from early position is risky because many players still have to act after you.

Middle position: You have seen one or two players act, but several opponents still remain after you. You can raise with good medium hands, but you still need to be cautious. If an early player already raised, you should only continue if your hand is solid. Do not call a raise with a weak high card from middle position.

Late position advantage: This is the best seat. You watch every player before you. If everyone packs, you can steal the pot with a blind raise. If several players chaal quietly, you can decide to raise to build the pot with your strong hand. If multiple players raise, you know there is strength at the table and you can pack a medium hand instead of paying extra chips.

Side show rules are also tied to position. You can only send a side show to the player who acted right before you. This means late-position players have more chances to request side show against the previous player. Early-position players rarely get side show opportunities.

Worked example:

Four players: Player 1 (early), Player 2 (middle), Player 3 (middle), Player 4 (late).

Player 1 chaals blind. Player 2 packs. Player 3 chaals seen. Player 4 is last to act. Player 4 sees that only two players stayed in, so they can raise or request side show if eligible. Player 4 has far more information than Player 1 had at the start.

Strategy adjustments by position:

Early position: Tight, few raises, limit bluffs.

Middle position: Moderate, call raises only with decent hands.

Late position: More flexible, bluff opportunities, easier side show, steal small pots.

Common beginner mistakes about position:

- Playing the same way no matter when your turn comes. Raising from early position with a colour is risky, but raising that same colour from late position is safer.

- Bluffing from early position against the whole table.

- Ignoring previous players’ actions and making decisions only based on your own cards.

- Trying to send side show to players who are not immediately before you.

- Overvaluing a medium hand just because you like it, even when acting early.

Quick recap:

Late position = most information, best for bluff and side show.

Early position = least information, play tight and conservative.

Middle position = balanced, watch the players before you.

Your hand strength is not the only thing that matters. The order you act changes how profitable a hand can be.
